The NYC Non-Profit Organization, Hearts of Gold, plans to distribute 500+ fully loaded backpacks to homeless children in the Flatiron District on Saturday, August 17th.

Beginning at 10:00 am the children and moms of the NYC Shelter System will begin to arrive at the “block party-style event” for an exuberant back to school celebration. The event is expected to draw over 500 children and 200 moms that are part of the Hearts of Gold program along with community members/supporters of HoG. The event will take place outside along the entire block of 26th Street between Broadway and 6th Ave. There will be a tye-dying station, a Lego contest, a DJ, food trucks, and various games to play throughout the day. At 2:00 pm, The children will travel through a backpack stuffing line-up where they can select brand new school supplies to pump them up and prepare them for the new school year.

Hearts of Gold’s mission and purpose is reimagining the future of homeless mothers and their children in NYC, together by helping them to become confident and self-sufficient as they prepare to transition out of New York City shelter system to permanent homes.
