  • Following up on a story from the last roundup, Shake Shack raised $105 million in its initial public offering, exceeding expectations. On the first day of trading, the burger chain’s stock value more than doubled to $47 a share (via Crain’s).
  • A new art installation from Paula Hayes was unveiled in Madison Square Park on February 19th. The piece is composed of glass globes mounted on pedestals and filled with surreal landscape sculptures made from non-compostable items (via NY Times).
  • Texas-based Indian fusion restaurant Pondicheri broke into the New York market with a 15-year lease at 15 West 27th Street, which is currently undergoing renovations (via Commercial Observer). Beauty product company Estee Lauder expanded its offices above Home Depot at 40 West 23rd Street by 100,000 square feet to accommodate two new divisions (via Commercial Observer).
  • Two Flatiron dining destinations are expanding in New York City. Almond, a French/American bistro on East 22nd Street, opened in Tribeca at 186 Franklin Street (via Tribeca Citizen). Currently, only dinner is available, but lunch service will begin next month. Ilili Box, a casual concept from renowned Mediterranean restaurant ilili, is set to operate a space at City Kitchen, a temporary food market in Times Square (via Eater). The first ilili Box location is on the North Flatiron Public Plaza; the new 4,000 square foot lunch spot in Times Square will open March 5th
  • Finally, Marriott International reported it has sold its forthcoming hotel, currently under construction, in the iconic MetLife Clock Tower at 5 Madison Avenue. The buyer is the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority from the United Arab Emirates, and the purchase price was undisclosed (via The Real Deal). Across Madison Square Park, construction began on an 18-story boutique hotel at 17 West 24th Street (via Real Estate Weekly).
