BID Program Spotlight: Spring Cleaning in the Flatiron District

As we approach the official first day of spring, the Flatiron BID’s Clean Team has ramped up manpower to rid the district of salt residue and grit from the winter season and to get the neighborhood back into shape for the warmer weather ahead.

Year round, the Clean Team services the district seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m, and as of March 15th, additional workers have been added into the rotation throughout the week to prepare for the increased volume of service that warmer weather necessitates.  Additionally, four days a week, a specialized maintenance worker is in the district painting fixtures, removing graffiti, and handling special projects, and there is a dedicated worker to service the Public Plazas.

The Clean Team, contracted through Streetplus, has been power-washing sidewalks and street elements, applying a fresh coat of paint to trash cans and tree pit guards, and performing overall cleaning and maintenance work in the district.

In the Flatiron Plazas, the BID’s Clean Team has already repainted and repaired tables and chairs. They have also washed away dirt and winter grime on the planters, which will soon be filled with new spring flowers. Beginning in May, the entire district will be serviced from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., along with additional staff to keep the Public Plazas clean and open to the public later in the evenings.
