M23 Select Bus Service: City Response to Comments

We asked you to comment on the M23 bus route in Flatiron, and now the city has responded. On Monday, March 28th, New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) and Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) gave a presentation about the M23 Select Bus Service at a meeting of the Transportation Committee of Community Board 5.

Select Bus Service projects across the city have helped reduce time spent waiting for the bus, boarding the bus, and traveling. With 15,000 daily passengers, over only approximately three miles, the M23 is an important crosstown route that connects riders to multiple subway and bus routes, neighborhoods, schools, and job centers.

The presentation included descriptions of:

  • Overall Vision Zero strategy and its relationship to SBS
  • Altered turning restrictions
  • Changed bus stop locations
  • A more comfortable wait
  • Less time waiting at traffic lights
  • Knowledge of the next bus' expected arrival time
  • Commercial loading on 23rd Street
