Free Business Courses and Workshops for Small Business Owners

The NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) provides direct assistance to help small businesses start, operate, and expand in New York City. To help small business owners compete and thrive, SBS offers free business courses and workshops. Topics range from the basics of how to develop a strong business plan and marketing strategy to more advanced courses on government contracting, computer-based bookkeeping, and e-commerce strategies.

  • 10 Steps to Starting Your Own Business, Thursday, June 16th, 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Business Financing Roadmap, Tuesday, June 21st, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • Business Planning Basics, Wednesday, June 22nd, 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
  • Signing a Commercial Lease: What You Need to Know, Wednesday, June 29th, 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

In addition to free courses and workshops, SBS offers a variety of free services for small business owners, such as legal aid, financing assistance, and Minority & Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) certification at its Business Solutions Centers across the five boroughs.
