Select Bus Service Coming to 23rd Street

Select Bus Service is New York City's version of Bus Rapid Transit: an improved bus service that offers fast, frequent, and reliable service on high-ridership bus routes. The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) are implementing Select Bus Service along 23rd Street to replace the local M23 bus service.

The M23 Select Bus Service project construction began on Monday, July 18th. DOT's crew began water blasting the existing lane lines out along 23rd Street. The new thermoplastic markings start Friday, July 29th and will take approximately 1.5 to 2.5 weeks to complete depending on weather. DOT will also be installing new regulatory signs and new wayfinding totems with real time passenger information (bus countdown clocks). Separate crews will be along the corridor installing Transit’s fare machines.

Work will maintain vehicular and pedestrian access throughout the implementation. DOT expects the project implementation to begin in early fall.
