Dining Options Expand in the Flatiron District

Given the ever-growing array of dining options, foodies are flocking to the Flatiron District. In the last four months, 12 new dining establishments opened their doors in the district, and among these are solo entrepreneurs, NYC newcomers, as well as existing New York City restaurants seeking to reach a new clientele.

23rd Street received a fast-casual makeover with five new restaurants in the category, serving up Mediterranean bowls, Greek gyros, and Vietnamese-inspired banh mi sandwiches, to name a few. Even the world’s best restaurant and Flatiron staple, Eleven Madison Park, began its fast-casual venture with the opening of Made Nice on 28th Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway.

Photo-worthy desserts attract passers-by and neighborhood locals at Patisserie Chanson, which celebrates the art of patisserie in its dessert speakeasy concept. Around the district, Japanese food continues to leave its mark, with the openings of KazuNori, YO! Sushi, and ROKI Le Izakaya.

Each location brings new flavors to the Flatiron plate, and together, these restaurants are pushing the culinary envelope. Restaurateurs and General Managers agree that the district’s mix of residents, office workers, and tourists, coupled with its historic charm and innovative character, make it a prime destination for the restaurant industry. To keep up with the recent openings in the neighborhood, we have put together a round-up including the district’s newest dining neighbors. 

Arby’s, 32 East 23rd Street, between Broadway and Madison Avenue, (212) 477-0402.
Known for its roast beef sandwiches and curly fries, Arby's new location on 23rd Street is the brand's second store in New York City.

BONMi, 19 East 23rd Street, between Park Avenue South and Lexington Avenue, (646) 895-9232.
A Vietnamese-inspired fast-casual restaurant, BONMi prides itself on its clean and humanely sourced ingredients, in addition to its sous-vide cooking method. Diners will find banh mi sandwiches and noodle bowls at BONMi's newest Manhattan location.

By Suzette, 38 East 23rd Street, between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South.
Founded by two French entrepreneurs on a mission to bring a French grandmother's recipe to the United States, By Suzette serves sweet and savory crepes in a fast-casual setting. The menu includes traditional combinations such as salted butter and sugar, as well as New York themed crepes, like "La Bacon Egg & Cheese."

Dos Toros, 668 Sixth Avenue, corner of 21st Street.
Known for its homemade tortilla chips, fresh salsa, and naturally raised meats, Dos Toros opened its 13th NYC location in the Flatiron District to much fanfare. Customer favorites include burrito bowls and hot-pressed quesadillas.

Fields Good Chicken, 44 East 23rd Street, corner of Park Avenue South, (212) 564-9805.
Specializing in whole roasted chicken, diners can order whole birds in addition to halved or quartered pieces. On the menu are pre-crafted salads and bowls, featuring slow-cooked chicken, and an array of toppings and sauces. 

GRK Fresh, 46 East 23rd Street, between Park Avenue South and Madison, (646) 647-8332.
Featuring build-your-own pita sandwiches and platters, in addition to salads and soups, GRK Fresh is bringing the taste of Greece to a clientele eager to mix and match different flavors. Aside from its lunch offerings, GRK Fresh offers Greek yogurt for dessert (fresh or frozen) with combinations such as rose petal and toasted almonds, and Greek honey and walnuts.

KazuNori, 15 West 28th Street, between Broadway and 28th Street, (347) 594-5940.
From the chefs behind Sugarfish comes KazuNori, calling itself the first restaurant of its kind, specializing in made-to-order Japanese hand rolls. A combination of crispy seaweed, warm rice, and fish, KazuNori's hand rolls are available for lunch and dinner.

Little Italy Pizza, 688 Sixth Avenue, corner of 22nd Street.
A new grab-n-go pizza shop is here for those seeking a quick and affordable lunch option. Little Italy Pizza serves pizza by the slice and by the pie in addition to other menu items such as stromboli rolls and calzones.

Made Nice, 8 West 28th Street, between Broadway and Fifth Avenue, (212) 887-1677.
From Chefs Will Guidara and Daniel Humm of Eleven Madison Park, voted World's Best Restaurant in 2017, Made Nice is the chefs' creation of a convenient and accessible counter-service restaurant. The seasonal menu is inspired by recipes from the haute cuisine at Eleven Madison Park and The NoMad Hotel.

NY Kimchi, 160 East 23rd Street, between Lexington and 3rd Avenues, (646) 476-8119.
Opening its second New York location in the Flatiron District, NY Kimchi prepares made-to-order Korean specialties such as bibimbap, bulgogi, and a homemade kimchi burger.

Patisserie Chanson, 20 West 23rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, (929) 423-8880.
Specializing in the art of dessert, Patisserie Chanson is a solo enterprise by the British chef Rory Macdonald. By day, Chanson is a bakery serving croissants, artful cakes, chocolate bonbons, coffees, and teas. By night, Chanson becomes a speakeasy dessert bar, offering craft cocktails and a dessert tasting experience.

ROKI Le Izakaya, 12 West 21st Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, (646) 383-7654.
Led by Chef Koji Higathara, ROKI Le Izakaya serves an upscale menu of Japanese tapas and ramen, as well as sushi rolls and sashimi in its restaurant on 21st Street.

VERTS, 24 East 23rd Street, at Madison Avenue, (646) 858-0609.
Founded in Austin by two German business school students, VERTS is a Mediterranean fast-casual eatery making its NYC debut on 23rd Street. Diners compose their own Mediterranean-inspired bowls, including elements such as freshly grilled meats and falafel, with unlimited toppings such as pickled onions, feta cheese, olives, and house-crafted sauces.
