April News Roundup

April showers brought in a lot of action this month in the Flatiron District with new restaurants on the radar, business developments, real estate transactions, and exciting local events. Stay up to date with the latest Flatiron District news with our monthly roundup of notable highlights.

  • Spring brought new restaurant openings and developments. SERRA by Birreria at Eataly opened this month - an Italian countryside themed rooftop featuring a menu with a strong focus on vegetables and herbs (via Time Out New York). Scarpetta located in the James New York NoMad Hotel recently launched its Sunday brunch where you can eat alongside live jazz music (via CBS Local). Several of New York City’s most anticipated openings for this spring and summer are located in the Flatiron neighborhood. First, Broken Shaker, a rooftop cocktail bar with sweeping views of the city located above the Freehand Hotel, is scheduled to open in May (via Eater NY). Second, Leonelli Taberna, a cocktail bar and lounge, and Leonelli Focacceria e Pasticceria, a bakery and café, both inspired by Rome and located at the Evelyn Hotel, are slated to open this June (via Eater NY). Finally, beloved NYC falafel chain Taim is starting a major expansion with a location in the Flatiron District scheduled to open this summer (via Business Insider). 
  • April also witnessed new business developments. The boutique fitness studio Brrrn is the first cool temperature fitness studio in Manhattan, and is set to open its doors this May (via Hoodline). HR staffing firm Adecco Group acquired coding academy General Assembly, which will maintain its own brand and operations under the umbrella company (via Technical.ly). L'Occitane en Provence introduced a "L'Occi Retail Truck," which is the beauty company's first-ever travel shopping experience (via Cision PR Newswire).
  • There have been some April real estate developments in Flatiron as well. The popular video-streaming company Dailymotion has subleased over 20,000 square feet of office space at 50 West 23rd Street (via Commercial Observer). Fenwick & West, a technology and life sciences law firm, is relocating to the district after signing a 36,300-square-foot lease at 902 Broadway (via Commercial Property Executive).
