2019 Annual Meeting Recap

The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership held its 13th Annual Meeting & Community Reception on Tuesday, June 4th at Grey Group's 200 Fifth Avenue headquarters. The event, along with the 2019 annual report, were themed “The Flatiron Experience,” and showcased the work of the BID and its partners to make Flatiron a neighborhood where property owners, businesses, residents, and visitors have exceptional experiences.

“Flatiron and NoMad have so many assets and attributes that make it a wonderful mixed-use, 24-7 community, and we as a Partnership will continue to responsibly promote and strengthen this district’s distinction as one of New York City’s great neighborhoods,” said James Mettham, who became the BID's Executive Director in February. “We are deeply grateful to our Board of Directors and this community as a whole for making sure our collective impact never skipped a beat during a year of leadership transition.”

The annual meeting, which drew upwards of 220 attendees, featured remarks from District 2 City Councilmember Carlina Rivera. Later, a panel moderated by Matt McClure, Anchor/Reporter at Spectrum News NY1, highlighted innovative Flatiron businesses that are creating one-of-a-kind experiences for their customers. Panelists included Jennifer DiCesare, Retail Store Operations Manager, Fujifilm Wonder Photo Shop; Jimmy T. Martin, Co-Founder, Brrrn; and Michelle Walder, General Manager, The NoMad Hotel.

The BID elected members to its Board of Directors, approved the FY 2020 budget, and presented its first-ever Robert B. Frankel Chairperson's Award to Gregg Schenker of ABS Partners Real Estate, who will be stepping down from his role as Chairman of the Board after 11 years of service. Frankel, the award’s namesake, passed away in 2018. He was an integral part of the 23rd Street Association, the precursor to the BID, and was the BID’s first chairman. The Frankel family presented the award to Schenker, along with long-serving Board treasurer Jim Buslik.

The BID also presented its Partnership Award to Uplift Studios; Outstanding Service Awards to the Flatiron Clean Team’s Jose Rodriguez and Flatiron Public Safety Officer Samuel Ortiz, Sr.; and Greening the District Awards to 225 Fifth Avenue Condominium, Con Edison, Meringoff Properties, The NoMad Hotel, Rockrose, and Tiffany & Co.

BIG thank you to our generous gift bag participants: Cohen’s Fashion Optical, Flatiron Wines, Leonelli Taberna, Made by We, Mangia, Maxwell Medical, The People’s Improv Theater, Scampi, Silver Mirror Facial Bar, TADA! Youth Theater, Uplift Studios, The White Company.

The program was followed by a rooftop community networking and cocktail reception catered by local favorite Mangia.
