Apply for an Appointment for Your Community Board Today

Being a New Yorker means playing an active role in shaping your local community, and one way to do this is to get involved with your local Community Board. The Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer is accepting applications for appointment to one of Manhattan's twelve Community Boards. 

Community boards are local representative bodies with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Dealing with land use and zoning issues,
  • Assessing the needs of their own neighborhoods, and
  • Addressing other community concerns.

Prior to seeking appointment, applicants are expected to have attended Community Board meetings, committee meetings, and/or Community Board Leadership trainings conducted by the Office of the Manhattan Borough President. Leadership trainings include A.

In order to be considered for appointment, you will have to complete and submit an online application, along with your resume, before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30th, 2015. You will have to answer a series of short questions about yourself and why you want to serve on your Community Board. Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email that includes a copy of your submitted application and details on the next steps in the screening and interview process.
