New Neighbor: The Evelyn Hotel

After a year of renovations, the Gershwin Hotel at 7 East 27th Street has been transformed into The Evelyn Hotel “to reflect the evolution of the hip neighborhood in which the hotel is located,” according to a Crain’s New York Business article.

The Evelyn borrows its name from chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit, who first arrived in New York City at the age of fifteen as an artist’s model, and who eventually became the mistress of Stanford White, famed architect of the second Madison Square Garden.

According to the hotel's website, the hotel has been “refreshed and restored to preserve the building's charm without sacrificing the convenience of modern amenities.  Designer Sylvia Sofio has taken special care to incorporate the building's extensive artistic and musical history into each room's decor.  In a playful intermingling of past and present, guests will have a gramophone that plays music streamed from their mobile phone and an intriguing chandelier resembling a trombone that adorns each room.  Even the mini-bar offers a musical element as snacks and drinks are housed inside of a vintage record cabinet while the bathrooms have a melodic character as a subtle border of sheet music and lyrics tie the theme together.”

In addition to musical components in every room, the hotel offers complimentary Wi-Fi, concierge service, luggage storage, and valet parking.  The Evelyn also provides complimentary walking tours every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. to guests staying in their boutique accommodations near Madison Square Park. Guests of The Evelyn may also take tours at other Triumph Hotels in Manhattan, including Hotel Chandler and Hotel Belleclaire.
