New Neighbor: Óxido

Welcome, Óxido - a new, modern Mexican fast-casual concept that has opened on West 23rd Street in the Flatiron District. The concept is the brainchild of Mexican chef Jesse Perez, aka El Jefe, a James Beard recognized chef and owner of Arcade restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, and business partners Daihwan Choi and Shmilly Gruenstein.

At Óxido, you can customize a burrito, bowl or taco with one of five protein options, or a vegetarian option of spicy mushrooms, along with savory toppings and a variety of sauces and salsas. The restaurant takes pride in making everything from scratch, "just like in your abuela’s kitchen," and using all naturally raised beef, pork and chicken.

The 1,800 square foot space was designed by Austin, Texas architect and interior designer Michael Hsu from Office of Architecture, and features a colorful three-dimensional glazed tile wall that runs alongside wooden seating for dining.

Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily.

Oxido, 18 West 23rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, (212) 256-1072.
