June News Roundup

It’s almost the end of the month, which means it’s time for another installment of our Flatiron news roundup. Below is a summary of stories and events from the district from the month of June.

  • Eleven Madison Park retained its coveted spot on Restaurant Magazine’s list of the world’s 50 best restaurants. The dining destination was ranked number five, the highest place among all North American restaurants, and was lauded for its “playful and often interactive” dishes and “impeccable service” (via New York Business Journal). Congratulations to co-owners Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, and the entire hard-working staff of this Flatiron culinary gem!
  • Stanford University announced that the new Stanford in New York program will be housed on the 18th floor of 915 Broadway, on the corner of 21st Street. This upcoming September, twenty students with backgrounds in the arts, architecture, design and urban studies will fill the space, and it will serve as their home base as they explore the surrounding Flatiron District and beyond. Newmark Grubb Knight Frank represented Stanford in the negotiations for the seven-year lease (via Commercial Observer).
  • Over the weekend of June 13th and 14th, the area around Madison Square Park was transformed into a meat-lover’s paradise for the 13th Annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party. More than 15 vendors from as far away as Tennessee grilled, baked, and smoked a wide variety of barbecue favorites. The event was also a showcase for musical talent, with six country and folk acts performing over the two days (via The New York Times and Gothamist).
  • Two Flatiron businesses made the news this month with chilled coffee drinks designed to beat the summer heat. Brooklyn Roasting Company's 23rd Street location offers nitrogen cold brewed coffee, served out of a tap and infused with nitrogen bubbles which give the beverage a creamy consistency (via Fox). Over on Fifth Avenue, small batch roaster Toby's Estate now sells their popular cold-brew coffee in sealed 12-ounce bottles that are perfect for stocking up at home (via The New York Times).
