New Neighbor: Rizzoli Bookstore

There's a new destination in the neighborhood for books and culture, and it is not short on grandeur! Rizzoli Bookstore, the famed book merchant known for its specialty art and design books, recently re-opened its flagship store in the St. James building on Broadway. Longtime patrons celebrated the return of Rizzoli, which vacated its Fifth Avenue location one year ago, with a grand re-opening at the end of July.

The new store combines elements from its previous home, including its gilded cherry wood bookcases and iron chandeliers, with new additions, such as custom-made wallpaper by Fornasetti Milano, depicting hot air balloons and Italian cities floating through the clouds.

Customers will enjoy the 5,000 square-foot space not only as a place to browse and shop for high-quality illustrated books, but also as a destination for high-profile cultural events including book launches and readings, film screenings and panel discussions, and ticketed concerts and curated exhibitions. Laura Donnini, CEO of RCS Libri, the book publishing arm of Rizzoli’s Milan-based parent company “expect[s] this customer—both New York-based, and visiting from all points national and international—to embrace the 21st century version of their favorite bookstore.”

Rizzoli Bookstore’s arrival adds to the neighborhood’s diversity of historical institutions, and complements the community of creatives and innovators that thrive in the neighborhood.

Hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday hours, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., will begin in September.
