August News Roundup

With summer in full swing, one might expect a quieter month in the Flatiron District. However, the neighborhood continued to bustle with activity - welcoming new neighbors and seeing real estate deals completed.

Below is our monthly roundup of notable highlights from the district:

  • Flatiron’s newest hotel The New York EDITION was billed as “A Luxury Hotel for a New Generation.” Hotelier Ian Schrager, in partnership with Marriott, presents an experience that “speaks to the next generation of travelers—who value the luxury of simplicity and the right combination of glamour and restraint” (via Forbes). Also in August, the hotel’s restaurant, The Clocktower, received a shining review from restaurant critic Pete Wells (via The New York Times).
  • As was reported in May, SL Green purchased the 29-story office tower at 11 Madison Avenue from owners CIM Group and the Sapir Organization. The deal closed this month for $2.285 billion plus approximately $300 million in costs associated with lease-stipulated improvements (via Business Wire).
  • August brought a flurry of activity to the historic St. James Building. Following the July opening of Rizzoli Bookstore, the building welcomed two new dining destinations. La Pecora Bianca opened as one of “The Hottest Restaurants in Manhattan Right Now, August 2015” (via Eater). Around the corner on West 26th Street, INDAY brings a new Indian food concept to Flatiron’s fast-casual dining scene (via Grubstreet).
