  • Flatiron fitness junkies had plenty of reason to cheer this past month. Luxury gym chain Equinox Fitness announced that they had signed a 20-year, 44,000 square-foot lease for a new location at 315 Park Avenue South, between East 23rd and 24th Streets. The new gym is expected to open in late 2016 and will feature four exercise studios, a spa, a retail space, and a lounge (via Real Estate Weekly).

  • January was an active month for new retail spaces in the Flatiron District. Fitness fashion boutique Bandier recently moved its Flatiron store into a new space at 164 Fifth Avenue. The store will also feature a workout studio and a space for musical performances (via Well+Good). Earlier this month, it was announced that Rituals, an Asian-inspired cosmetics and wellness company, signed a 3,175 square-foot, 10-year lease at 172 Fifth Avenue. • Flatiron office workers looking for new lunch options have a lot to look forward to in 2016. This month, Arcade, a lunch-by-text startup opened its first brick-and-mortar location in the Flatiron District. Users receive the day’s lunch options via text at 10 a.m., and can then choose between delivery or pick-up from Arcade’s location at 13 East 27th Street (via New York Business Journal). In other restaurant news, Flatiron District-favorite Shake Shack has released their fried chicken, Chick’n Shack sandwiches at restaurants across the country (via Eater NY).

  • Once completed, the 777-foot-tall tower at 45 East 22nd Street will be the tallest building in the Flatiron District. New construction pictures showcase why the tower has been such a hot sell and give a preview of what the Flatiron District’s skyline might look like in the near future (via Curbed NY).
