New Neighbor: Inscape

Inscape, a studio that offers immersive experiences for guided meditation and relaxation, arrived in the bustling Flatiron District earlier this November. Created by New York-based fashion retailer Intermix founder Khajak Keledjian, who became a serious meditator in 2007, Inscape also adopts Intermix's mix-and-match philosophy, but this time, applies it to the modern meditation center experience.

What is unique about Inscape that you cannot find at a yoga studio is the fact that there are no teachers or gurus. Classes are led by nondenominational teacher-free audio guides. The voice of the brand is known as Skye, and it will guide you through meditation and relaxation sessions (Vogue, November 2016).

Did you know that there is a difference between meditation and relaxation? Meditation is about your relationship with your mind. Inscape offers their signature flow that includes movement, breathing, and three types of meditation techniques—Focus, Mindfulness, and Mantra. Relaxation is when your body feels safe and nurtured, sending signals to your heart and breathing to slow down. You will experience the relaxation sessions lying down. Both relaxation and meditation sessions are offered in varying lengths, so that the sessions are accessible for everyone.

Inscape also offers quiet spaces outside of the studio where you can lounge and relax, sip tea, or read a book. You can also participate in their seasonal creative and interactive art activities. Inscape also offers a mobile app with content for all levels to guide you through the day.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Inscape, 45 West 21st Street, #1, between Sixth and Fifth Avenues, (646) 952-0706.
