December News Roundup

The Flatiron District capped 2016 with a focus on new restaurants and retailers, commercial real estate transactions, new office tenants, and "23 Days of Flatiron Cheer" holiday programming during the month of December.   • Flatiron Foodies will have a lot to look forward to in 2017, as a pair of exciting new restaurants recently opened in the neighborhood. Maui Onion Poke Bar recently opened its doors at 35 West 26th Street, offering twelve different poke creations that are available in a bowl, hand roll, burrito, or salad (via Eater). Also opening in December was Verde, a “Fine-casual” salad restaurant located at 22 West 25th Street. Verde works with independent farms to curate seasonal salads that are prepared by acclaimed chefs (via Grub Street).
  • Menswear brand Todd Snyder opened a flagship store at 23 East 26th Street in the beginning of December. Aside from a comprehensive menswear collection, the concept store also has an on-premises barbershop, tailor, and bar (via Bloomberg). In other neighborhood retail news, skin and body care brand L’Occitane recently unveiled its renovated experiential flagship store at 170 Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District (via Event Magazine).
  • Throughout December, several major new office tenants announced their plans to move to the Flatiron District, including digital media technology and marketplace Yieldbot at 902 Broadway (via Real Estate Weekly), food kit service HelloFresh at 40 West 25th Street (via Commercial Observer), and digital media publisher BDG Media at 315 Park Avenue South (via Real Estate Weekly). The Kaufman Organization also announced that digital personal finance firm Stash Invest and creative firm Incandescent leased a combined 8,500 square feet at 27 West 24th Street (via Commercial Observer).
  • In November, the BID and the Van Alen Institute unveiled LOT’s Flatiron Sky-Line, the winner of the Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition and the centerpiece of the BID’s “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” annual holiday programming. Flatiron Sky-Line was the talk of the town in December, receiving extensive media coverage from outlets like Gothamist, Lonely Planet, and ABC-7 NY. BID Executive Director Jennifer Brown also discussed Flatiron Sky-Line in a segment with NY1’s Roger Clark.
