Public Improvement Projects in the District

This spring, the Flatiron District will be busy with NYCDOT projects designed to improve pedestrian safety and circulation and enhance the public realm. Both projects will be presented at the meeting of the Transportation & Environment Committee of Community Board 5 on Monday, March 27 at 6PM. The meeting will be held at the Bryant Park Corporation, 111 West 40th Street, Suite 2400. 

Flatiron Shared Street

NYCDOT will present plans for a proposed Flatiron Shared Street.This project involves enhanced public space and pedestrian circulation, as well as safer pedestrian crossings in and around the Flatiron North Public Plaza. For more information, click here.

Protected Fifth Avenue Bike Lane (23rd to 8th Street)

NYCDOT is proposing to upgrade the existing buffered bike lane on Fifth Avenue from 23rd Street to 8th Street to a parking protected lane to improve safety for all road users. Painted pedestrian islands will shorten crossing distances for those crossing Fifth Avenue and mixing zones will improve intersections with left turns while maintaining the existing number of vehicular through lanes.
