As May comes to a close and summer beckons, the Flatiron District experienced media attention highlighting new food opportunities, a thriving real estate market, and further business development. Stay up to date with latest Flatiron District News with the BID’s monthly roundup of notable highlights. 

  • Breakfast options have reached new heights to help make the morning commute easier. Shake Shack at Madison Square Park announced its rollout of a breakfast menu (via Gothamist). Further, Eataly’s breakfast sandwiches have been declared the “Best in NYC” (via Business Insider).  
  • Calling all Foodies, a favorite outdoor food market, Madison Square Eats, kicks off this month until June 9th (via Guest of Guests). Be sure to also check out the summer’s biggest barbeque event, the Big Apple Barbeque Block Party of 2017, Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11 (via Eater NY). Additionally, two Flatiron District restaurants, Italienne and Made Nice, landed spots on the coveted 'Hottest Restaurants in Manhattan Right Now' list (via Eater NY). 
  • The commercial real estate market continues to thrive in the Flatiron District. While some neighborhoods have seen a decrease in rents, the Flatiron District is described to be “a great market and one of the strongest in the city” (via NY Post). Kohler, the plumbing giant, snatched up a prime real estate location on 21st Street to open up its flagship ‘Experience Center.’ The 10,000 square-foot space will provide customers with an interactive showroom displaying their products (via Architectural Digest). Jennifer Furniture signed a lease in the landmark O’Neill Building on Sixth Avenue (via NY Post). 
  • Workspace developer WeWork has plans for “three times the number of real estate transactions this year” bringing further business development to the Flatiron District (via BisNow).  Designer Peter Manning opened a second-floor retail shop to bringing his online men’s clothing site to its first brick-and-mortar location. The shop caters to the fashion needs of 'short-to-moderately sized men' (via NY Business Journals). PetSmart has announced plans to open its third New York City location within the Financial District with doors opening this fall (via Commerical Property Executive).
