December News Roundup

As 2017 draws to a close you may have expected December to be a quiet month in the Flatiron District. However, with the BID’s holiday program and lots of news from local businesses, the neighborhood was as busy as ever. Stay up-to-date with the latest Flatiron District News with our monthly roundup of notable highlights.

  • Cote, one of the Flatiron District’s hottest restaurants, has received prestigious accolades since opening in June. The Korean-American steakhouse capped off a remarkable year earlier this month as it was named the #3 best new restaurant in New York City in 2017 (via Grub Street).
  • Investment management firm Artisan Partners announced earlier this month that they signed a 10-year, 9,000 s/f lease at 220 Fifth Avenue. The new office space was signed to accommodate the Milwaukee-based company’s New York City expansion (via Commercial Observer). Artisan Partners is one of the growing number of financial firms that have moved to the neighborhood in 2017.
  • In November, the BID and the Van Alen Institute unveiled Future Expansion’s Flatiron Reflection, the winner of the Flatiron Public Plaza Holiday Design Competition and the centerpiece of the BID’s “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” annual holiday programming series. Flatiron Reflection was the talk of the town in December, receiving extensive media coverage from outlets like Curbed New Yorkdesignboom, and ArchDaily. BID Executive Director Jennifer Brown also discussed Flatiron Reflection in segments with NY1 and 106.7 Lite FM.
  • In other BID news, the Flatiron District’s new Shared Street on Broadway between West 24th and West 25th Streets made national headlines this month as it was featured in Car and Driver. The Shared Street was completed in August and has given the neighborhood more space for pedestrians and bicyclists and features signage depicting the pedestrian right-of-way and posted vehicular speed limit of 5 miles per hour as well as a plaza-like surface treatment.
