Holiday Launch Event & "23 Days of Flatiron Cheer"

On Monday, November 19th, the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership presented a festive event on the North Plaza to launch the seventh annual “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer,” which will feature free performances, fitness classes, holiday recipes, hot beverage giveaways, and much more.

The centerpiece for the season, Happy, a vibrant public art instillation, was unveiled during the event, in the shadow of the famed Flatiron Building. Designed by Studio Cadena, Happy was selected through the fifth-annual Flatiron Plaza Holiday Design Competition in partnership with Van Alen Institute and NYC DOT Art.

“23 Days of Flatiron Cheer,” which runs from Saturday, December 1st through Sunday, December 23rd, will include free, holiday-themed events showcasing the intersection of shopping, dining, and culture in the neighborhood. The launch event featured a performance by The Jazz Gallery, small bites from ilili BOX, hot chocolate from Shake Shack, and chances to win gifts from local businesses by spinning the ever-popular Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership’s Prize Wheel.

The evening also included remarks by Kurt Cavanaugh, Deputy Director of the Flatiron Partnership; Isabel Miesner, Competitions Coordinator for the Van Alen Institute; Benjamin Cadena, Founder and Principal of Studio Cadena; and Stephen Meringoff, Managing Partner of Himmel + Meringoff Properties.

“Flatiron is one of New York City’s premier destinations for holiday shopping, food, and culture,” said Cavanaugh. “This year’s 23 Days of Flatiron Cheer lineup offers fun, free activities here in one of the country’s most iconic public spaces. We encourage everyone who visits, works in, or lives in Flatiron to enjoy our programming—and everything else the district has to offer—throughout the holiday season.”

Now in its seventh year, “23 Days of Flatiron Cheer” is made possible by generous sponsors, including Meringoff Properties (Presenting Sponsor), and 212 Fifth Avenue and Sony Square NYC (Supporting Sponsors).

This year’s roster of events can be viewed at FlatironDistrict.nyc/holiday2018.

Visitors to Happy and participants in “23 Days” programming are encouraged to share their photos on Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #HappyinFlatiron. Throughout the month of December, photos using the hashtag will be entered to win prizes from local businesses.
