New Neighbor: Memo Shish Kebab

The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership is delighted to introduce Memo Shish Kebab to the Flatiron neighborhood. After 18 years operating his original location on King's Highway in Brooklyn, owner Mehmet Avci decided it was time to bring Memo Shisk Kebab to Manhattan. Feauring a "soul that encapsulates everything that is Turkish cuisine," Memo Shish Kebab prides itself in staying true to its roots.

Family owned and hand built, the Turkish restaurant avoids altering its menu to follow American trends, favoring consistency and authenticity over new menu items. Even with options that can be taken on-the-go, patrons can enjoy true Turkish flavors and will understand the buzz around Turkish food that has become so prevalant over the last decade.

"For the first extended branch of the Memo Shish Kebab restaurant, West 23rd and Sixth Avenue was perfect. With a location that is central to numerous densely populated spots in Manhattan, ranging from Flatiron, Chelsea, Union Square, Koreatown, and Kips Bay, it was imperative that the new branch was inviting to a diverse pool of consumers," said Loli Gjurra, Operations Director. "For anybody opening up a new business, population, demographics, and visibility are important, but for us, the new Memo Shish Kebab needed factors that could not be found in its original location in Brooklyn. The new branch needs to flourish in an on-the-go setting."

Memo Shish Kebab showcases the “Doner Kebab”, a famous Turkish street food, in both sandwiches and entrees. In addition to quick kebab and gyro sandwiches and platters, Memo also features more time-intensive entrees and specialty dishes, such as Sautés, Lahmahcun (nicknamed the “Turkish Pizza”), and Kunefe. With skillfully carved meats and vegetarian-friendly options, the menu proves itself broad enough to meet the needs and cravings of all customers. For those seeking tasty treats that satisfy their sweet tooth, Memo Shish Kebab hand-makes fresh Turkish-oriented desserts ranging from puddings to cakes.

After 18 years, the Flatiron District is proud to be Memo's new home as it continues to expand and bring a little bit of Turkey into every New Yorker's diet.
