New Executive Director, James Mettham, Joins the BID

This is my first week on the job as the new Executive Director of the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership BID—and I could not be more excited to get to work. It is a privilege to lead an organization that I have admired for years, including during my tenure with the NYC Department of Small Business Services as both an Assistant Commissioner and as Executive Director of BID Program Management.

The Flatiron Partnership is a standard-bearer for BIDs across the city. Thanks in large part to the exemplary work of my predecessor, founding Executive Director Jennifer Brown, our staff, and our Board of Directors, today Flatiron is a thriving district that attracts people from all over the world to visit, work, live, and raise a family.

Throughout my career, I have been passionate about creating opportunities for New York businesses, guiding constructive public-private partnerships, and cultivating exceptional places and spaces for all New Yorkers. I plan to bring that same level of commitment and enthusiasm to my work here in Flatiron.

Looking ahead, one of our top priorities is the ongoing district expansion process: enlarging the BID’s footprint to the north to further encompass our growing NoMad neighborhood, and to the south to serve additional property owners, businesses, employees, residents, and visitors. We also continue to spearhead efforts to make permanent the popular Public Plazas that anchor many of our free, seasonal programs. And, of course, we continue to provide the quality services you have come to expect, to maintain a safe, vibrant, and beautiful district.

As a stakeholder in the neighborhood, we’re so appreciative of the support you provide for the work that we do. If your organization is interested in further investing in this critical work throughout the district, please consider participating in our sponsorship program, which you can learn more about here.

I also encourage you to make your voice heard. You can fill out our Flatiron BID Expansion Needs Assessment Survey here, and stay tuned to our communications channels—our newsletter, website, and social media—for details about upcoming public meetings.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming days and weeks. And, please save the date—Tuesday, June 4, 2019—for our 13th Annual Meeting. I hope to see you there.
