2019 Summer Streets - Enjoy Open Streets!

Summer Streets is an annual celebration of the City's streets. For three consecutive Saturdays (August 3rd, 10th, & 17th), nearly seven miles of Park Avenue/Park Avenue South is open for people to play, run, walk, and bike. Summer Streets programming takes place from 7 am to 1 pm and extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. All activities are free of charge and designed for people of all ages and abilities.

The Flatiron District is home to the Midtown Rest Stop - one of the major activity centers along the Summer Streets route. Located on East 25th Street between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South, the Midtown Rest Stop offers a diverse spread of events including fitness classes, concerts, and dance performances. Listen to a diverse array of musical performances at the Midtown Performance Stage to keep your foot tapping as you take a beat from running and cycling along the route for a bit of entertainment and refreshments.

BIKE PROGRAMMING

THE FIVE BOROUGH BICYCLE CLUB: BIKE REPAIR   
Park Avenue between 26th and 25th Streets/East
The Five Borough Bicycle Club will offer free bike repair at the Midtown Rest Stop. Whether you are new to cycling, a commuter seeking new adventures, or an avid cyclist, we have rides for you. 

UNLIMITED BIKING: FREE BIKE RENTALS
25th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues
Unlimited Biking, a premier bike rentals, tours, and experiences company, is partnering with Summer Streets to provide FREE bike rentals for individuals participating in the event. With over 4,000 bikes across New York and California, Unlimited Biking will offer 75 complimentary bikes at each rest stop. All rentals will come with helmets, baskets/bike bags and illustrated maps.

Park Avenue between 25th and 24th Streets/West

Free bike valet provided by Transportation Alternatives.

BIKE NEW YORK: LEARN TO RIDE—KIDS
24th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues

Learn to Ride-Kids is a free group class for children who are ready to ditch their training wheels and ride a two-wheeler for the first time. Kids must bring their own bike and helmet. Spaces are limited. Please register here in advance to guarantee participation. When creating an account for registration, make sure you enter the participating child's name and birth-date in the 'Personal Info' section.

CITIBIKE IS BACK   
24th Street between Park and Madison Avenues
Head on down to the Citi Bike tent at Park Avenue and E. 24th Street for some summer fun! Bust a move with their famous DJ bike train, cool down with some refreshments and play some Citi Bike trivia for killer swag. Never tried Citi Bike or want to learn more? Citi Bike Ambassadors will be there to answer any questions, show you the right way to ride, and sign you up for discount memberships. 

DOT Helmet Fitting   
24th Street between Park and Madison Avenues
Stop by the west side of 24th Street between Park and Madison avenues to be custom-fitted for your free DOT Vision Zero bike helmet. This is a popular giveaway so make sure to arrive early to guarantee a helmet. The line will close at noon in order to complete fittings by the end of the event at 1 pm.

CITY PICNIC: FREE FOOD AND BEVERAGE SAMPLING  

25th Street between Park and Madison Avenues
Stop by the City Picnic’s Food & Beverage Sampling Zone for yummy treats and refreshing beverages. Grab free samples from vendors throughout the day. Make sure this is your first stop in order to beat the crowds in the later morning hours. NYC DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION (DSNY)
Visit DSNY to learn how to keep garbage from landfills, and receive a free reusable bag (while supplies last)!

DEP WATER ON THE GO
Stay hydrated this summer! New York City is fortunate to be able to enjoy some of the best drinking water in the nation. Stop by one of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection's portable water fountains to fill up a water bottle, take a sip, or keep your four-legged friend hydrated. We've set up locations along the event route at all five rest stops. Just look for the bright blue tent!

DOT MOBILITY UNIT (August 17)
Play and learn with interactive transportation mobility games. Playing city planner, create pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods for people of all ages and abilities. Learn how the City improves mobility and travel for all New Yorkers!
