  • “New York’s New Soup Kitchen Has an Upscale Address: Eleven Madison Park.” A group called Rethink has teamed up with the Michelin-starred restaurant to feed New Yorkers in need (via New York Times).
  • Eleven Madison Park landed on Vogue’s list of “19 restaurants everyone should visit at least once in their lives” (via Vogue).
  • maman‘s limited edition Double Chocolate Cookie with Oat Ganache available during March was labeled “The Greatest Cookie in NYC” (via Gothamist).

  • Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the highly anticipated opening of the British steakhouse, Hawksmoor has been postponed (via Big Hospitality).

  • Between 5 and 7 million US restaurant workers could lose their jobs in the next 3 months because of the coronavirus pandemic. A captain at The NoMad restaurant shares thoughts (via Business Insider).
  • Chef Floyd Cardoz dies at age 59 due to the coronavirus. Chef Cardoz was the first chef born and raised in India to lead an influential New York City kitchen, at Tabla, a Flatiron restaurant previously housed at 11 Madison Avenue (via New York Times).
  • “A New York restaurant world reduced to takeout and delivery” – One New Yorker recounts ordering from Flatiron’s Cote Steakhouse to support (via The New Yorker).

 

BID Businesses

  • Psychedelic medicine company Mindbloom has opened its first New York City location in the NoMad neighborhood at 245 Fifth Avenue (via Green Market Report).
  • Chicago-based independent creative agency 50,000feet opened its NYC outpost in Flatiron District (via MediaPost).
  • Digital transformation agency BORN Group is set to double the size of its New York headquarters in Flatiron after TechMahindra’s acquisition of the company (via BORN).

 

Real Estate & Commercial

  • NYC’s supertall skyscraper boom has been mapped. The Department of Buildings has given the green light to a 1,011-foot skyscraper located at 262 Fifth Ave, designed by Russian firm Meganom (via Curbed).
  • The Deerfield Life Sciences Building coming to 345 Park Avenue South will make a bold push into biotech. Upon completion, the $1.1 billion facility will become the world’s largest known single source for accelerating cell and gene therapies (via Investable Universe).
  • Excavation and pilings are progressing for Strata Tower, Bjarke Ingels Group‘s 34-story commercial office skyscraper under development at 3 West 29th Street (via New York YIMBY).
  • Work continued on The Fifth Avenue Hotel, an addition and renovation at 250 Fifth Avenue. The project involves the construction of a 230-foot-tall, 24-story structure and the renovation and conversion of an adjacent 115-year-old bank building (via New York YIMBY).
  • An LLC linked to Triad Professional Services purchased 1115 Broadway in Manhattan’s Flatiron District for $26.1 million. The office building stands 12 stories tall and has 50 units (via The Real Deal).
  • AXA Investment Managers and the Kaufman Organization became the owners of the 67,000-square-foot, mixed-use property at 56 West 22nd Street for 48.5 million (via Commercial Cafe).
