Announcing the 2017 Flatiron Summer Series: June 20th – August 10th

The Flatiron Summer Series is free community programming for the neighborhood by the neighborhood. The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with local businesses, will host eight weeks of free classes, activities, and entertainment on the Flatiron Public Plazas, at the intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street. The series will kick off on Tuesday, June 20th, and then run regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through August 10th.

2017 Flatiron Summer Series Solstice Event

On Summer Solstice (Wednesday, June 21st), the longest day of the year, the BID and the National Museum of Mathematics will construct a sundial, and passers by will be able to mark their shadow to show the passing of time throughout the day. This event will take place on the North Plaza.

Free Tech Ed Classes on “Tech Tuesdays

Since 2012, the BID has provided the neighborhood with a series of free tech education classes. This year, classes will be taught by instructors from many local businesses, including Baruch College Division of Continuing and Professional Studies, ThoughtMatter, Touro Graduate School of Technology and General Assembly. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the South Plaza.

Flatiron Fitness on “Wellness Wednesdays

This summer, the BID continues to partner with Athleta Flatiron to provide free fitness classes on the South Plaza. The classes will be held on eight consecutive Wednesdays from June 21st to August 9th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The classes will be taught by instructors from local businesses, including Exhale, SIN Workouts, Gotham Jiu Jitsu, New York Health & Racquet Club, AKT and New York Personal Training. 

Flatiron Fun on “Throwback Thursdays

On Thursdays, the BID will set up a game station that is free and open to the public on the North Plaza with board games, giant Connect 4, and corn hole sets. Games will be available beginning at 11:00 a.m. on the North Plaza. On specific weeks The Center for Book Arts will provide free cultural education and entertainment from 12-2 p.m. In the evenings begining at 6 p.m., enjoy performances by local arts organizations such as The Jazz Gallery, TADA! Youth Theater, Metropolitan Room and People's Improv Theatre (PIT).

This year we’re adding something sweet to the Throwback Thursday line up! Join us for our Summer Scoops Kickoff featuring free gelato from Eataly starting at 6 p.m. on June 22nd. Mid-Summer Scoops with free frozen custard by Shake Shack will be held on July 13th at 6 p.m. Bring your family, friends and co-workers... there's nothing like a good ice cream social in the summer!
