New Neighbor: Sony Square NYC

Sony Square NYC, a showplace for the latest in Sony entertainment and technology, opened to the public Thursday, August 4th. The space is located on the ground floor of Sony Corporation of America's headquarters at the historic Metropolitan Life Building.

The new public space showcases innovations in products, music, movies, and gaming, some of which are still in the prototype stage. The space embodies Sony’s "relentless pursuit of innovation and KANDO, which means 'the power to move people emotionally,” said Steven Fuld, Senior Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Sony Corporation of America. "We hope that this space becomes a destination for entertainment fans as well as those who want to see the latest in Sony’s cutting-edge products. Exhibits will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to see a curated selection of Sony products, from prototype to those currently available."

The exhibits at Sony Square NYC are set to change periodically throughout the year. Right now, they are presenting a range of products, including Sony cameras, watches, a portable projector, and the LED Bulb Speaker. The latter has the appearance of a lightbulb and can be plugged into any standard E26 light socket, so it does not need cables or charging. The bulb emits customizable levels of light--32 different levels, as well as vivid colors or pastels. The bulb also functions as a speaker, and can be programmed to synchronize with other bulbs for a lightshow. All of this is controlled through a mobile app and connected via Bluetooth.

The space is also used for unique consumer events, such as photography classes, exclusive movie screenings, and performances by Sony Music artists.

Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
