August News Roundup

Summer might be coming to an end, but the Flatiron District was  busy as ever in August with media attention highlighting neighborhood restaurants, the debut of the Shared Street design on Broadway, and new commercial tenants. Stay up to date with the latest Flatiron District News with the BID’s monthly roundup of notable highlights.

  • Popular tourist attractions can scare away locals, but Eataly and Shake Shack, were identified as locations that live up to the excitement and are worth the visit whether you are from the area or just visiting (via Eater New York). A sought after summer drink, spritzes increased in popularity, including one offered up by Italienne (via TimeOut New York). The Flatiron District received a special shout out for its growing healthy, fast-casual restaurant scene that includes that likes of coveted restaurants such as SweetgreenDr SmoodCha Cha Matcha, and Inday to name just a few (via AM New York). 
  • Earlier this month, the district debuted its Shared Street redesign on Broadway to increase pedestrian and cyclist safety, which is "the first time a New York City street has been reconfigured this way on a permanent, full-time basis" (via Gothamist). In other neighborhood news, Madison Square Park announced a Winter Whiteout Installation coming this November, which will display a small blizzard made up of hundreds of LED white spheres (via The Art Newspaper).
  • Throngs of neighborhood residents and office workers took time out of their busy schedules on August 21st to catch a glimpse of the eclipse. Business Insider was on hand to capture the scene in the Flatiron District.
  • Several new companies are taking advantage of the Flatiron District's prime office real estate. Knotel, a start-up office provider signed a 10-year deal this month as they expand to accommodate increasing customer demand (via Commercial Observer). MQS Management is moving its location from 26th Street over to the Rudin Family's 41 Madison, " one of the Flatiron District’s most heavily-trafficked corridors" (via Real Estate Weekly).
