BID Annual Meeting Recap

"You are building a community like no other," noted Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer about the BID's efforts in the district during the Flatiron 23rd/Street Partnership's 8th Annual Meeting and panel discussion in the Grey Group Town Hall at 200 Fifth Avenue on Tuesday, June 3. "People are taking risks and they're being successful!"

Enterprising Flatiron restaurateurs comprised this year's panel about the community's flourishing dining scene. "It has become a food destination," noted Marc Glosserman, Founder & CEO of Hill Country Hospitality, who was part of the discussion moderated by Eater NY Editor Greg Morabito. Added Sabato Sagaria, Chief Restaurant Officer, Union Square Hospitality Group, about Flatiron, "It's not uptown. It's not downtown. It's just right!" Other panelists included Ben Daitz, Co-Owner of Num Pang, Marisa May, Co-Owner, SD26 Restaurant & Wine Bar and SD26 Events, and Dario Wolos, Founder & CEO of Tacombi, which recently opened Café el Presidente.

In addition to the panel presentation, Keats Myer, Executive Director of the Madison Square Park Conservancy, provided an update about what's new in the Park. There was also a review of the BID's year-to-date financials, its fiscal year 2015 budget, nominations and election of directors, and Jennifer Brown, BID Executive Director, and Gregg Schenker, the BID's Chairman of the Board of Directors, also presented awards to a number of individuals and companies for their recent efforts in Flatiron.

Outstanding Service Award recipients were Alexander George and Wilson Jimenez, of the BID's Public Safety and Clean Streets Teams, respectively; Greening the District Award, Colliers International, Con Edison, Meringoff Properties, The NoMad Hotel, and Tiffany & Co.; Chairman's Award, James Dill, Housing & Services Inc., and BID Board member; and the Partnership Award, TD Bank. "All our members of the BID Board are volunteers and we come together to try our best to serve the community," noted Schenker, "and to try to bring about a positive result for the neighborhood."
