New Neighbor: J. Gumbo's

Last week, J. Gumbo’s removed their “coming soon” sign and opened their doors to welcome passersby with free samples and Mardi Gras beads. The location on West 23rd Street is the first New York City outpost for this fast-casual Cajun and Creole brand.

The menu features flavorful gumbo, Creole ratatouille, voodoo chicken, and of course, their world famous drunken chicken. Yes, there is beer in the drunken chicken (though all of alcohol has been cooked out during the simmering process)!

The “J” in J. Gumbo’s stands for “jockey” in honor of the founder who is a retired thoroughbred jockey. More fun facts about J. Gumbo’s Cajun and Creole Cooking Co. can be found on their website here

On Friday, August 1st, J. Gumbo's will celebrate their official grand opening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a jazz band and a number of in-store promotions.

Open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

J. Gumbo’s, 61 W 23rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, (212) 206-8501.
