New Neighbor: Cosme

This month, we welcome Cosme to the Flatiron District. Cosme serves contemporary Mexican-inspired cuisine created by world-renowned Chef Enrique Olvera and his team. The dishes are rooted in Mexican flavors and traditions, while also celebrating local and seasonal ingredients from the Hudson Valley and surrounding region. The menu features dishes whose base ingredients are corn, beans and chiles, complemented by local vegetables, herbs, meats, fish and other seafood that will change with the seasons. Their signature dishes include octopus cocktail, lobster sopes, burrata and weeds, husk meringue with corn mousse.

As a young boy, Chef Olvera discovered his love for cooking in the kitchen of his grandparents’ bakery in Mexico City, Mexico. His passion for food brought him to New York where he trained at the Culinary Institute of America. Upon graduation, Chef Olvera returned to Mexico City and opened his first restaurant, Pujol. Olvera´s hard work has earned him international recognition and admiration. Food & Wine named him one of the “10 Next Chef Superstars” and Star Chefs´ International Chefs Congress named him the “Top-Ten International Figures in World Gastronomy.”

Named after a market in Mexico City where Olvera’s grandfather took him as a child, Cosme evokes a strong sense of place. The restaurant’s three environments—the main dining room, the bar, and a private space—have been designed by architect Alonso de Garay and interior designer Micaela De Bernardi to accentuate enjoyment of richly pleasing cuisine in a shared yet relaxed ambience. The 3,500-square-foot space seats approximately 140 guests, with the main dining room and bar room each seating approximately 65. The private dining room accommodates up to 12 people with a separate service entrance and offers audio and internet capabilities.

When asked about their choice of neighborhood, the Cosme team said “We chose the neighborhood because it integrates all the elements we were looking for: connectivity, diversity and has a great, central location.”

Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.; closed on Sundays.

Cosme, 35 East 21st Street, between Broadway and Park Avenue South, (212) 913-9659.
