New Neighbor: INDAY

The concept behind INDAY, a new fast-casual Indian restaurant by first-time restaurateur Basu Ratnam, is "India every day." His idea became a reality two years ago at a dinner party where Ratnam sat next to seasoned restaurateur Phil Suarez, a partner of Jean-Georges Vongerichten in many restaurant ventures, and "described his vision persuasively enough for Suarez to sign on as a lead investor," wrote NY Magazine. The restaurant officially opens today.

Ordering at INDAY only involves 3 steps. Step 1 - pick a number, which corresponds to a main dish. INDAY offers both warm and cool mains. Warm mains include rice, grain, and "not rice," a blend of shredded cauliflower and brussels sprouts. Cool mains are vegetable based and are named after their colors, including ruby (shaved red cabbage), emerald (kale, spinach, and corn), and rainbow (seasonal vegetables). Step 2 - pick a protein, with options including banana leaf pork, chicken, tofu, and more. Step 3 - enjoy!

Ratnam said of the space, “We spent nine months looking for a space in NoMad because we wanted to be among the creative energy and young businesses surrounding the area. We found our home in the iconic St. James Building on the corner of Broadway and 26th and couldn’t be happier with our neighbors and friends in the area.”

The restaurant boasts a simple, yet elegant interior. The bright pops of yellow glowing lights balances the neutral tone of the tropical interior. At the center of the restaurant is a large wooden communal table surrounded by varying colors of wooden stools.

Hours this week are from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. On Monday, August 24th INDAY will debut their extended hours from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.

INDAY, 1133 Broadway, entrance on 26th Street, (917) 521-5012.
