New Neighbor: Kat & Theo

Kat & Theo was revealed last week to many excited first-time diners who packed the 70-seat restaurant on its opening night. The restaurant’s name came from co-owner Andreas Typaldos’ parents' names: Katerina and Theodosios. The restaurant's menu and design reflect Typaldos' parents' journey from "Old World Europe" to "New World America."

The menu features seasonal, New American fare with Mediterranean flavors from executive chef Paras Shah. When asked about her favorite dish, co-owner Renee Typaldos said "all of them -- they are so well balanced that it just depends on my mood -- which is always open for our knockout desserts." Desserts are created by pastry chef Serena Chow, formerly of Eleven Madison Park.

The restaurant, designed by Dara Young of Aviva Collective and Anna Niedermeyer, evokes an old-world-meets-new-world feel, blending reclaimed materials inspired by Southern Europe and elements of the historic Flatiron District. Renee Typaldos said "I was the owner of Greensquare Tavern for over three years and have watched the Flatiron neighborhood blossom and grow with exciting new businesses and residences. And that's why we spent the last year upping our game with a new Mediterranean-inspired American menu and a knock-out interior space which pays tribute to old world Europe and NYC's iconic district."

Hours are Tuesdays through Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 5:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
