September not only brought cooler weather and the beginning of fall to the Flatiron District, but also exciting restaurant openings, major real estate transactions, and impressive growth from Flatiron-area startups. Below is a collection of notable news articles from the last month.

  • Kat & Theo opened earlier this month at 5 West 21st Street (via Zagat). The 70-seat restaurant will be serving seasonal, New American fare with Mediterranean flavors from executive chef Paras Shah. September also saw the opening of Black Barn just north of Madison Square Park. Owner and chef John Doherty’s rustic, farm-to-table brings a rustic farmhouse atmosphere to the center of the Flatiron District. Read more about Black Barn in this write-up from The Village Voice.   • A dozen technology, advertising, media, and information tenants recently signed leases totaling about 26,000 square feet in Kaufman Organization’s 27 West 24th Street. The largest lease was signed by design firm Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv (via Commercial Observer).
  • NeueHouse, a New York-based provider of high-end co-working space, will open its first global headquarters near Madison Square Park. The firm signed a a 10-year lease for 8,732 square feet at 373 Park Ave. South (via The Wall Street Journal).
  • Two growing startups - Fullscreen and FanDuel - are moving to the Flatiron District. Fullscreen, an aggregator of YouTube channels for brands and advertisers, signed a 10-year lease for 17,000 square feet of office space at 315 Park Avenue South (via The Real Deal). FanDuel, a fantasy sports startup, is also moving its offices to Park Avenue South as the company recently signed a lease for 41,000 square feet at 300 Park Avenue South (via The Real Deal).
