Join Us for Small Business Saturday!

On Saturday, November 26, two days after Thanksgiving, New Yorkers will join millions of shoppers around the country for Small Business Saturday.  This year, to raise awareness about the value of shopping locally, BIDs around the city are coming together for the Small Business Saturday Coalition, a citywide campaign to highlight the diversity of small and independent businesses in New York. The Flatiron BID is happy to work with its neighboring BIDs to champion the Shop Small movement, and to shine a spotlight on the unique retail opportunities that contribute to every neighborhood’s character.

As a Neighborhood Champion, an official American Express designation, the Flatiron BID will highlight events happening locally in the neighborhood. If you are a small business owner in the Flatiron District and would like to learn more about becoming a participating business on Small Business Saturday, please contact the Flatiron BID at info@flatironbid.org.

Additionally, the BID has marketing materials to share with businesses like storefront logos, social media posts, or website banners to drive consumers to their stores. Eligible businesses may also order a Shop Small Kit, at no charge, until November 11 (while supplies last).

Not familiar with Small Business Saturday? It began in 2010 when American Express founded the event to encourage consumers to “Shop Small,” and in 2011, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution officially recognizing Small Business Saturday. Since then, elected officials and community organizations play an important role in supporting the event, a cornerstone of the holiday shopping season. Last year alone, consumers spent $16.2 billion on Small Business Saturday, according to a survey released by the National Federation of Independent Business and American Express.
