New Neighbor: Verde

Newcomer Verde opened its doors last week to a frenzy of media and buzz. Verde was founded by childhood friends - entrepreneur Alejandro Porteny and Gonzalo Goût, who was the opening Manager at Cosme in 2014. Both founders have extensive background in hospitality and service.

“When we decided to open Verde, Flatiron was our first option,” said Porteny. “The mix of residents, businesses, and tourism in the area is truly unique, and we knew would be a perfect fit for Verde.” Their concept of “curated greens” means that Verde only offers recipes created by their chefs who select ingredients and compose the salad for you. Gone are the long lines waiting to customize your salads.

As such, Verde’s back-of-house operates like a fine-dining kitchen. Their chefs work with independent farms to create seasonal salad recipes, inspired combinations rich in flavors and goodness. Simultaneously, Verde’s front-of-house operates in the same way as a grab-and-go establishment. You pick your salad, all of which are vegetarian, and a side of protein. With this model, Verde's service concept has been dubbed a "fine-casual" salad restaurant.

Hours are daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Verde will be expanding their hours in January.

Verde, 22 West 25th Street, between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, (646) 838 0700.
