March News Roundup

March was an action-packed month with new restaurants and businesses popping up all over the District. Stay up-to-date with the latest Flatiron District news with the Flatiron BID’s monthly roundup of notable highlights.

  • New life arrived on West 23rd Street this month with the opening of two new restaurants. Popular British chain YO! Sushi opened its first NYC restaurant at 23 West 23rd Street. The restaurant serves up sushi, sashimi, and salad on a conveyor belt that moves throughout the restaurant (via Gothamist). Just across the street, Chef Rory Macdonald opened French pastry shop and bread bakery Patisserie Chanson (via The New York Times).
  • Emelyn Northway and Dorie Smith, the co-owners of women’s clothing boutique Of Mercer, offer fashion tips for conquering all kinds of office dress codes in a recent profile in Business Insider. In other retail news, women’s yogawear company Alo Yoga recently announced that they signed a lease for a new flagship store at 164 Fifth Avenue (via Commercial Observer).
  • Stainless steel water bottle maker S’well is the newest company to call the Flatiron District home. S’well recently announced that they subleased a 25,000-square foot space at Colliers International’s building at 28-40 West 23rd Street (via Commercial Observer).
  • Retail opportunity alert! Shefa Land Corp. is looking for new tenants for a prime piece of Flatiron real estate at 161 Fifth Avenue. The entire 85,775-square-foot building is now available for tenants looking for either retail or office space (via The Real Deal).
