Announcing the 2018 Flatiron Summer Series: June 19th – August 9th

The Flatiron Summer Series is free community programming for the neighborhood, by the neighborhood. The Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with local businesses, will host eight weeks of free classes, activities, and entertainment on the Flatiron Public Plazas, at the intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue and 23rd Street. The series kicks off on Tuesday, June 19th, with programming on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through August 9th.

2018 Flatiron Summer Series Solstice Event

On the Summer Solstice (Thursday, June 21st), the BID and the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) will construct a vinyl sundial on the North Plaza. Passers-by will be able to mark their shadow to show the passing of time throughout the day.

Free Tech Ed Classes on Tech Tuesdays

Since 2012, the BID has provided a series of free tech education classes as part of the Summer Series. This year, classes will be taught by instructors from many local businesses, including Baruch College Division of Continuing and Professional Studies, ThoughtMatter, Touro Graduate School of Technology and General Assembly. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 6 pm to 7 pm on the South Plaza.

Flatiron Fitness on Wellness Wednesdays

This summer, the BID continues to partner with Athleta Flatiron to provide free fitness classes on the South Plaza. The classes will be held on Wednesdays from June 20th to August 8th (excluding July 4th) from 6 pm to 7 pm. The classes will be taught by instructors from local businesses, including exhale Spa, Uplift Studios, Tiger Schulmann Kickboxing, New York Health & Racquet Club, and bodē NYC.

Flatiron Fun on Throwback Thursdays

Each Thursday, the BID will set up a game station that is free and open to the public on the Flatiron North Public Plaza complete with board games, giant Connect 4, and corn hole sets. Games will be available from 11 am to 7 pm. The Center for Book Arts and Fujifilm Wonderphoto Shop will provide free cultural education and entertainment from noon to 2 pm on select Thursdays. Beginning at 6 pm, local arts organizations including The Jazz Gallery, TADA! Youth Theater, Hill Country Live, The Peoples Improv Theatre (PIT) and North Coast as seen at The Peoples Improv Theater will provide live entertainment.

Finally, the BID's 'Summer Sweets' events are back on the North Plaza on select Thursdays! The schedule is as follows: 'Summer Scoops' free gelato from Eataly at 6 pm on June 21st; 'Mid-Summer Scoops' with free frozen custard by Shake Shack on July 26th at 6 pm; free mini cannoli for 'Summer Sweets' from Eataly at 6 pm on August 9th.
