Happy in Flatiron during the "23 Days of Cheer" 2018

On Saturday, December 1st, the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (BID) kicked off its annual holiday program, "23 Days of Flatiron Cheer" on the Flatiron North Public Plaza. The program is designed to enliven and activate the Flatiron Public Plazas for residents and visitors alike, while promoting the neighborhood as a shopping, dining, and cultural destination throughout the holiday season.

Preview at the Flatiron Holiday Installation Launch Event

Prior to the official launch, the BID ushered in the holiday season on Monday, November 19th with the unveiling of Happy the winner of the fifth annual holiday art installation design competition. In addition to experiencing Happy by Studio Cadena for the first time, the event featured a performance by The Jazz GalleryShake Shack's hot chocolate, small bites by ilili BOX, and premium prize wheel prizes from neighborhood businesses. You can read the event recap here.

Live on the Flatiron Public Plaza

Every Friday & Saturday from December 1st through December 23rd, between noon and 4 pm, the BID invited New Yorkers to take a break from the holiday hustle and enjoy a free hot beverage from a local cafe, while spinning the Flatiron prize wheel for a gift from a local business. While out on the plaza folks could donate to our holiday food drive for the Food Bank For New York City. Performances by The People's Improv Theater (The PIT)  & The Ballroom Hub were scheduled on Fridays. Unfortunately the Ballroom Hub dancers were cancelled due to rain on December 21st. We look forward to having them out next year! On Saturdays shoppers picked up "23 Days of Flatiron Cheer" tote bags full of neighborhood discounts.

Over the course of the holiday program, our team handed out over 2,000 prizes from local businesses, over 2,100 free hot beverages, and 1,000 branded tote bags full of discounts from various neighborhood restaurants and retailers.

600 people pre-registered to attend the Flatiron Holiday Gift Preview Party at Sony Square NYC on December 12th to celebrate the holidays and the release of Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. From 4-8 pm on the Flatiron North Public Plaza, MoMath invited visitors to take an epic kaleidoscope selfie. Mirrors on all sides ensured no matter what your best angle was captured. Flatiron fave wagamama was serving delicious hot ramen to attendees while they took a spin on the Flatiron Prize Wheel. It was a fun and festive way to welcome the winter season.

Food Drive for the Food Bank For New York City

With thousands of New Yorkers experiencing hunger and hardship, the BID partnered 17 companies to host a food drive at 21 locations throughout the Flatiron District through December 23rd to benefit the Food Bank For New York City. In addition to the donations collected by our office partners, the BID also collected non-perishable foods such as canned fruit, canned vegetables, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, and hot and cold cereal at the Flatiron North Public Plaza during Live on the Plaza events.
