September News Roundup

September brings the official end to the summer and the beginning of fall. Even though we may be trading our sunglasses for sweaters, there is still so much happening in the Flatiron District. Stay up-to-date with the latest Flatiron District News with the BID’s monthly roundup of notable highlights.

Restaurants & Bars
  • Newly opened flower-forward restaurant, Il Firoista shared tips and recipes for cooking a meal made almost entirely out of flowers (via New York Times), and the husband and wife duo behind Il Fiorista opend up about making their dream restaurant a reality (via Grub Street).
  • Local favorite 230 Fifth got a shout out as one of the best rooftop bars for fall in NYC (via Thrillist).
  • Godiva Cafe is set to open in the Flatiron District at 933 Broadway offering a variety of new items including the Godiva "Croiffle - a croissant/waffle hybrid). Keep an eye out for the debut! (via Real Estate Weekly).
BID Businesses
  • Warner Bros is reportedly opening a Harry Potter experience exhibit here in the Flatiron District at 935 Broadway. The expected 35K square foot space would allow visitors to walk through recreations of many of the films’ most iconic locations, including the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest and the locomotive (via Crain's New York Business). 
  • Jane DO, a new gym centered around female empowerment, came to the district this month (via Flatiron District). 
  • The NoMad was deemed New York's “Most Magical Hotel” (via Forbes). 
  • Poster House made the list of the “Best Exhibits in NYC Right Now”. Stop in and check out their interactive photo booth, which is a permanent fixture of the museum (via Thrillist).
Real Estate
  • The New York City Economic Development Corporation and Deerfield Management, a New York City-based healthcare investment firm, are developing an approximate 300,000 square-foot campus for life sciences at 345 Park Avenue South. The site, designated a NYCLifeSci campus, will bring together scientists, entrepreneurs, and leading organizations from around the world to work shoulder-to-shoulder to conceive of and develop new treatments and better ways to prevent and defeat disease (via HIT Consultant).
  • A historic commercial building at 56 West 22nd street is hitting the market for an estimated $50 million (via Commercial Observer). 
  • Rothy's, a big name in shoe fashion, is making Flatiron its new home at 236 Fifth Avenue (via Commerical Observer). 
  • The Japanese investment firm Unizo Holdings Co. is selling its New York City real estate including 40 West 25th St. in the Flatiron District, a roughly 135,000 square foot office building (via Crain’s New York).
