  • Sona, The Sentry, Dippin' Dots, and Seeyamañana were featured in "A Running List of New Restaurants That Opened in New York City, April 2021" (via Eater NY). 
  • Eleven Madison Park will reopen their dining room next month with a plant-based menu and is deploying a food truck called Eleven Madison Truck. Daniel Humm, chef and owner, partnered with Rethink Food NYC, a non-proft, to feed underserved food communities and feed frontline works with the food truck (via Bloomberg).
  • Cote and Scarpetta gave commentary on how the pandemic changed the restaurant scene in "Restaurants Confront a New Pandemic Problem: Customers Who Don’t Want to Leave “People used to be busy. Now they like to hang out” (via Grub Street).
  • At the upcoming Ritz-Carlton hotel located at 1185 Broadway, Zaytinya, a Mediterranean restaurant, is scheduled to open with the hotel this fall followed by the opening of Bazaar (via New York Times).
  • Planta Queen, an Asian-inspired restaurant, expands with a location coming to 15 West 27th Street (via Miami New Times). 
  • Seeyamañana, a new plant-based Mexican restaurant from the owers of Patent Pending, opens at 49 West 27th Street (via Eater New York).
  • SERRA by Birreria located on the rooftop of Eataly opened with their new theme for the spring with an Italian greenhouse-inspired concept (via 6sqft).
  • AweSum DimSum is featured in the "17 Restaurants Where New Yorkers Can Make Up for Lost Time" (via The New York Times).
  • Sona and its new menu of reimagined Indian classic dishes received a notable shoutout with its  Masala-Stuffed Chicken Wings cited as a standout (via Eater NY).
  • Mark's Off Madison's M.O.M Home Service takeout and delivery option was named one of "13 Restaurants Perfect for Mother's Day Brunch." (via Eater NY)
  • Hill Country's menu of Central Texas barbecue landed a spot on "New York City's Essential Barbecue Restaurants" list (via Eater NY).
  • ilili, a Lebanese cuisine restaurant, was named one of "24 NYC restaurants to enjoy Mother's Day brunch" at (via 6sqft). 

District Businesses

  • Project Gaia by Maison De Papillon opened a multi-brand concept store featuring artists and purpose-driven brands (via Retail Touch Points).
  • The health and fitness club Life Time is set to open an additional location in the Flatiron District (via Fortune).
  • Avanade, a technology consulting firm, launches a pilot program to bring in employees based on their own schedules. “It’s completely integrated. It’s about creating more sustained patterns that suit you — work hours that suit your needs best," said Caroline Fanning, chief people officer at the company (via New York Post). 
  • Tend, a dental studio located on 29 East 21st Street, will expand with additional New York City locations (via New York Business Journal). 
  • Harry Potter New York's flagship store is set to open June 3rd at 935 Broadway (via Entertainment Weekly). 
  • Todd Snyder partners with Atlier & Repairs for an exclusive collection of upcycled vintage pieces in celebration of Earth Day. The clothing featuring quilting and Japanese-inspired embroidery can be found at Todd Snyder (via Women's Wear Daily).

Real Estate

  • The Fifth Avenue Hotel, a 24-story tower designed by Perkins Eastman, PBDW Architects, and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, is currently under-going facade work. The hotel is located at 250 Fifth Avenue (via YIMBY NY).
  • 7-9 East 30th Street, a 227-foot-tall residential building with ground-level retail space continues work on its facade (via YIMBY NY).
  • Julie Chartoff and Irene Glezos, residents of the Gilsey House Building, renovated the original interior of the apartment with architects Max Worrell and Jejon Yeung (via Curbed).
  • Arch Companies, a real estate company, relocates offices from 524 Broadway SoHo to 15 West 27th Street NoMad. The company leased the space from Kaufman Organization (via Commercial Observer).
  • General Assembly, the tech-focused continuing education organization, renews its lease for the next 10 years at 915 Broadway, an ABS Partners Real Estate building (via The Real Deal).
  • Tribeca Investment Group, PGIM Real Estate, and Meadow Partners plan for a $350 million redevelopment of 295 Fifth Avenue, The Textile Building. The companies hired Studios Architecture to renovate the 700,000 s/f office space to be safe for employees to come back into the workplace and respect the history and uniqueness of the building (via Real Estate Weekly).
  • Rimadesio, an Italian furniture designer, opens up a 6,200 s/f flagship store lease at 102 Madison Avenue (via Real Estate Weekly).
  • Rockrose Developmenet purchased a 218,000-square-foot office building at 11 East 26th Street (via The Real Deal). 

Around the Neighborhood

  • Madison Square Park listed as one of Gotham's favorite picnic locations (via Gotham).
  • Designer and architect Maya Lin's "Ghost Forest" is fully installed at Madison Square Park and highlights the effects of climate change (via Gothamist).
  • As part of the NYC Open Culture Program, Blessed Unrest presented a movement-based performance called TOUCH from May 1st - 9th at East 26th Street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue (via Broadway World).
  • Vineyard Theater presented The Busking Project with Tony Award-winning actor Bill Irwin. The 15-minute outdoor live performance happened at Astor Place and Madison Square Park during April 22 - 30 and May 2 (via Broadway World).
  • WATG design firm creates "Green Block" GIFS of places around the world like the Flatiron District of Broadway and 5th Avenue (via Core 77).
  • Department of Transportation comes out with their Broadway Vision for Midtown areas like the Flatiron District, Garment District, and near Times Square. "Slow Streets" reduce the speed of traffic and give more space to pedestrians and bikers (via Patch).
